This UN Volunteer assignment is based within the UNFPA Afghanistan Country Office to support the Maternal and Reproductive Health (MRH) Unit. The role is essential to ensure smooth internal operations, support in programmatic/financial functions, coordination with implementing partners (IPs), and support in administrative functions. The Programme & Operations Assistant will help the MRH Unit deliver timely and efficient support by providing hands-on assistance with the MRH unit funds tracking and analysis, event coordination, and operations/administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Support financial analysis, tracking, and reconciliation of MRH funding within UNFPA’s systems.
  • Follow up on work plans (WPs) with Implementing Partners (IPs), the MRH unit funds management, as well as on budget realignments and fund utilization.
  • Support the MRH Unit with preparation, coordination, and documentation of internal and external meetings, missions, and events.
  • Assist in requisition preparation, payment processing, and financial documentation using UNFPA’s financial and procurement platforms.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support including travel arrangements, event logistics, and procurement follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate and organized digital and physical records of MRH programme documentation.
  • Support the Unit with preparation of briefing materials, internal reports, and operational updates. IPs Coordination
  • Provide coordination support with Implementing Partners (IPs)
  • Follow up on all recommendations and suggestions from meetings with IPs on a quarterly and annual basis as well as ensure proper documentation of these meetings.
  • Coordinate with IPs on any field visits undertaken by the MRH team, donors, M&E.
  • Support M&E functions of the MRH Unit by assisting in the validation and verification of programme data submitted by IPs; ensure data consistency with approved AWPs and financial disbursements.
  • Track implementation progress, flag inconsistencies, and assist the MRH Unit in maintaining accurate records of programme outputs and indicators.

Education:

Bachelor degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Public health, Public Administration, or other relevant fields.

Work  Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in programme, administrative support, or project coordination;
  • Experience working with the UN system (is an asset), particularly in programme and operations support;
  • Excellent english oral and written communication skills; drafting, formulation, and reporting skills;
  • Accuracy and professionalism in project documentation, data tracking, and editing;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of stakeholders including UN colleagues, implementing partners, and local service providers;

  • English, Level: Fluent, Required

  • Pashto, Level: Fluent, Desirable
